Abstract

Endocannabinoid system (ECS) consists of endogenous cannabinoid receptors, endocannabinoids and a series of enzymes and membrane transport receptors involved in biosynthesis and metabolism of ECS. In recent years, ECS with biological effects has been recognized in multiple kinds of skin cells, such as keratinocytes, fibroblasts and sebocytes. More and more studies have found that ECS participates in physiological and biochemical activities of normal skin and inflammatory reactions, and plays important roles in several kinds of inflammatory skin diseases. At present, clinical application of ECS still faces many hurdles, but researches on ECS have provided new insights and strategies for the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases in clinic.
