Abstract

Introduction. The article presents an overview of the new book by prof. Gennady Mokshin on the problem of chronicle Voronezh. The author analyzes this publication from the standpoint of modern historiography and the tradition of the local Voronezh scientific school. In fact, the book is an encyclopedia of the history of the development of research thought on the topic of annalistic Voronezh.Materials and methods. The author considers disputes about the existence of Voronezh in the XII century. as a historiographic problem, highlighting the stages in its study, focusing on the origins and reasons for the emergence of new approaches.Results. Of considerable interest is the fifth section of the book. It contains an analysis of the results of the original survey of modern researchers on the problem of annalistic Voronezh. 33 researchers were interviewed on 18 questions. As a result, Mokshin managed to obtain data for judging the current state of the study of the problem. Judging by the results of the survey, researchers (although not all of the respondents) recognize the relevance of the topic of studying the annalistic Voronezh, not only in the framework of local history studies, but also in the context of studying a number of aspects of the history of Rus'. The chronicle Voronezh is connected with the plots of ancient Russian history by the figure of Yaropolk Rostislavich, who played a significant role in the political events of the 70-80s. XII century. He reigned in Kyiv, Vladimir, Novgorod, Torzhok. Yaropolk is depicted on the miniatures of the Radzivilov Chronicle, the Illuminated Chronicle of the 16th century, and his seals were found in Novgorod.Conclusion. The author of the review comes to the conclusion that the peer-reviewed publication will find its grateful reader and will be of interest to various audiences.
