Abstract
The presence of antibodies against the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor has been associated with a neurological syndrome characterized by alterations of consciousness, involuntary movements, and seizures. These alterations are considered to be a paraneoplastic syndrome primarily associated with ovarian tumors in young women but can occur in the absence of neoplasia. In most patients, dysautonomia, complex involuntary movements, hyperthermia and respiratory failure require treatment in intensive care units. Tumoral resection of the tumor leads to complete neurological recovery in the long term.
