Abstract

The chapter serves as an introduction to the current volume. A case is made for the importance of a book focusing on the use of Legitimation Code Theory (LCT) in Science Education. The chapter introduces the major dimensions of LCT which are currently in use – namely, Specialization, Semantics and Autonomy. As well as giving descriptions of some of the refinements of each of these dimensions. A brief summary of each chapter is given. It is notable that the majority of chapters have at least one author who has produced research in the scientific field in which they work.
