Abstract

ABSTRACTSite-specific choreographer JoAnna Mendl Shaw brought a transformative process to the dance students at the State University of New York, Potsdam, with a choreographic approach shaped by her creation of site works with dancers and horses, and her training in natural horsemanship. This choreographic residency resulted in the creation and performance of This Is a Dance in an outdoor site on campus performed by 16 undergraduate dance students. Shaw's unique approach of bringing an interspecies lens into the dance studio inspired marked changes in the dancers' perceiving, attending, responding, and connecting.
