Abstract

This study is an initial contribution to research on women in tourism in the municipality of Potosí and the Torotoro, National Park, a tourist area protected by the Pluri‑national State of Bolivia. The objective is to analyze the current state of the political, social, economic and individual empowerment of women in community tourism in the area. Following a quantitative methodology, the main results show that there are advances in the empowerment indicators and that women have gained important spaces in the public and private spheres. However, there are still pending challenges to be fully incorporated into administrative, public areas and valorisation of their products or services, among others. The study concludes the lines along which work must continue to achieve the empowerment of women in tourism in a more sustainable way over time
