Abstract

The paper presents the details of employment generation through sericulture activity in drought prone area where ninety per cent of the district population subsists on agriculture .It focuses mainly on the employment of women in the activity which can be easily performed by them. It also emphasizes on the income generation through the activity. It also presents a comparison of generation of employment by other crops .The author also presents few suggestions for the development of sericulture in the district .The study assumes significance in the context of employment generation to women in drought prone areas where the non farm employment opportunities barely exist in the district.
