Abstract

Six research programs are presented focusing on current applications of Emotional Intelligence (EI) to human behavior and individual differences. Siegling & Petrides argue that the EI facets show “considerable convergence” in the prediction of various external criteria. Gokcen, Frederickson & Petrides explore autistic traits in adults and EI related variables. Matthews et al. report that EI does not enhance coping with stress but rather with efforts employed in information searches. Ziedner & Kloda discuss the role of EI in adaptive marital relationships and dyadic coping while Austin’s research shows that positively influencing the mood of others is related to EI while the ‘dark triad’ is associated with mood worsening strategies. Mikolajczak’s data supports the role of EI in predicting health behaviours that goes beyond that accounted for by other commonly used markers.
