Abstract

The paper studies the stories of Desanka Maksimović from the point of view of the herоʼs emotional spectrum. The framework for such an approach to the writerʼs work was provided by the research in developmental psychology, which were intensified in the second half of the 20 th century. The research for this paper started from the fact that the studied stories place a childʼs consciousness in the center, at the moment of surviving a significant, ground-breaking event in the period of growing up. In several stories, the specific spotlight is on the events that bring a new understanding of reality for the child, and heroes in the transitional age, of themselves and others, which prepares them for the transition to the next age group. Immediate family, close elderly people, teaching staff and peers play an important role in the process of individual maturation. Their role is to provide support, to be a support for the child hero, to make the critical period as painless as possible, and to overcome and avoid possible mental upheavals. A story in which the support of close elders is missing, ends negatively for the child hero, even self-destructively.
