Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to report numerical calculations for the microwave reflection, absorption, and thermal emission from a smooth air-water interface. These calculations were made by utilizing the Debye equation for the real and imaginary parts of the complex dielectric constant, as experimentally evaluated for water by Saxton and Lane. The coefficient of reflectivity was calculated from theFresnel equations, and by assuming Kirchhoff's law the coefficient of emissivity and thermal emission was subsequently determined.
