Abstract
The authors investigate the emission of energetic protons at backward angles in intermediate-energy heavy-ion collisions within the cooperative model developed earlier. Using the same ingredients as those employed in a rather successful description of the 'subthreshold' pion and hard photon production, the model provides a good account of the experimental data. Thus nuclear cooperation appears to be the possible mechanism of all the 'subthreshold' reactions.
