Abstract

The aim of this study is to characterized EMI shielding behaviour of epoxy composite ferrosilicon fillers for X and Ku band frequencies. In this research particles were surface treated and investigated for its effect on dielectric properties and EMI shielding behaviour. The composite structures were fabricated by using a solution casting process. This investigation found the following. Pure epoxy matrix has weak dielectric and EMI shielding performance. Further inclusion of 0.5 and 1.0 vol% of particle enhances the dielectric and shielding properties. The dielectric characteristics show improvement for 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 vol% of particles. However, vol. % up to 4.0 drops PBF4′s dielectric constant to roughly 0.9, and its dielectric loss is about 0.63. The maximum EMI shielding values recorded are 42.4 dB and 52.3 when 4.0 vol% of particles areadded. Such a mechanically strong and EMI-shielding thin composite wall structure could be used in the satellite, radar, defense, electronic device, and aerospace industries.
