Abstract

We consider some applications of the general theory of homogeneous structures to classes of semigroups. The usual construction for these requires the amalgamation property, but we give a variation which applies to many more classes, involving the notion of an amalgamation base. We thus obtain analogues of the Higman, Neumann and Neumann Embedding Theorem for the class of inverse semigroups and for the class of all semigroups.
