Abstract

Node Location information may reduce the overalloverhead of communication for packet forwarding in Mobile Ad- Hoc Networks (MANETs). This research aims in developing Efficient Location based Multicast Protocol (ELMP) to reduce the communication and computation requirement for selection of next node (hop) for packet forwarding. To diminish the impact due to inaccurate local topology knowledge, the topology information is updated at a node in a periodic manner based on network dynamics and traffic demand. On-demand routing mechanism is used in order to reduce control overhead compared to the proactive schemes which are normally adopted in current geographic routing protocols. Proposed method procures the node position detail using GPS and tracks the effective routing algorithm to ensure communication follows with least no’s of hops and computations. This aims to prove that the proposed ELMP outperforms in all aspects such as improved energy consumption, packet delivery ratio and decreased delay, overhead.
