Abstract

This research is entitled "Elements of Batak Culture in Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap Movie (Roland Barthes Semiotics Analysis)". This research is motivated by the author's interest in one of the films in Indonesia entitled Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap which was released on June 2, 2022, this film tells the Batak culture and how disputes occur in the family. The purpose of this research is to find out the meaning of denotation, connotation and myth that presents the elements of Batak culture. The approach method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research that utilizes qualitative data and is described descriptively. Data collection techniques include observation and documentation. The data analysis technique of this research is Roland Barthes semiotics. After analyzing the data in the form of a series of images in each scene in the Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap film. The results of this study show that in the Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap film there are denotation, connotation and mythical meanings in the film, and there are also elements of Batak culture in the Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap film such as the use of Batak language, Bolon house, Ulos cloth, Mi Gomak, gathering at Lapo, sulang-sulang pahompu, sending children to law school, marrying a fellow Batak tribe, and the last child to inherit the house.
