Abstract

Mineral profiles of wines and soil extracts were analyzed in five international most popular wines (Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Cot and Tannat) and national Bogazkere, which is one of the most quality wine varieties produced in Turkey. We carried out this study to establish the mineral and metal concentrations in wines from South East Anatolia of Turkey. ICP-OES analysis method was used for accurate determination of concentration of 12 elements (Ca, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, Pb, Zn). The high level of iron, potassium, sodium, and calcium were observed in the wine samples analyzed. Major elements were also abundantly found in the soil samples. Minor element contents of wine samples were compatible with other research results. The quantity of metal content in wine is of great interest. An important finding of the study was that heavy metals like Pb (found below acceptable limits only in three samples), Co, and Cd were not detected. The results obtained from the study did not exceed the maximum acceptable limits established by the Office International de la Vigne et du Vin (OIV).The characteristics of Southeast Turkish wines were defined in terms of mineral content of five international popular wines (Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Cot and Tannat) and the Bogazkere wine, which was analysed for the first time.
