Abstract

There is a growing interest in the development of mesh free methods for numerical solution of partial differential equations. The element free Galerkin (EFG) method is based on the diffuse elements method (DEM). In this paper, an element free Galerkin method, originating from mechanics, is applied for the calculation of eigenvalues of the classical and truncated rectangular waveguide. It is shown that the EFG method can achieve better values than FEM with the same number of nodes. The element free Galerkin method does not require laborious and time consuming mesh generation. It only depends on the distribution of a set of nodes inside the analysis domain.
