Abstract

Methods of preparation of glutaric acid by oxidation of cyclopentanone or pentane-1,5-diol in an undivided cell at a NiOOH electrode in aqueous alkali are developed. Yields of the products were 51% or 90%, respectively. The mechanism of electrooxidation of cycloalkanones at a NiOOH electrode is discussed on the basis of literature data and the regularities of the oxidative transformations of cyclohexanone investigated earlier and those of cyclopentanone.
