Abstract

Analysis of the literature data for the recent 20 years is performed regarding oxidation of organic compounds on a NiOOH electrode in the aqueous alkaline medium under the conditions of diaphragmless, as a rule, galvanostatic electrolysis. Alongside with the new data on oxidation of aliphatic alcohols, benzyl alcohols, and aromatic aldehydes, the review presents for the first time the results of detailed studies of oxidation of alkylaromatic alcohols, sugars, cyclic ketones, and formylpyrazoles. Special attention was paid to the methods of preparation of NiOOH electrodes for enhancement of the process efficiency, problems of their scaling and also using mediators and carrying out the oxidation processes under the effect of NiOOH in the solution bulk for the cases when the rate of interaction of NiOOH on the electrode surface with the organic substrate is low.
