Abstract
This contribution summarizes the technical review and discussion topics incorporated in the workshop which concerns high voltage insulation in electrostatic machines. The performance of the SF 6 gas gap and the development of different insulation structures including coaxial, bundled conductor, intershield, and Vivitron type super-bundle approaches is reviewed. The emerging role of solid support insulation in the radial gap and the need for careful consideration of actual local electric stresses adjacent the insulator surface is also presented. Finally, there is a review of the topics for discussion which ranged from the gas gap and solid supports to acceleration tube insulation, charging systems, and operational monitoring.
