Abstract
Activated carbon is the prevailing technical adsorbent for the purification of water. Its usual regeneration by heating or steaming consumes considerable energy and is frequently performed ex situ. It is possible to control adsorption and desorption of organic molecules on granular activated carbon by means of an electric potential.
