Abstract

We report here a study on the separation of ions of the first and second analytical group by electrophoresis on thin layers of silica gel. The electrophoretic mobilities of these ions were examined in various electrolytes and at different pH and ionic strengths in order to achieve separation. In all cases the mobility values permit interesting partial separations. For complete separation of the ions of the two groups, the best results are obtained with EDTA or with electrolytes based on HCl and organic solvents. The separation results are very interesting since the experimental times are always less than thirty minutes and the quantities of ions examined are only a few micrograms.
