Abstract

Herein, Pt and Bi catalysts are prepared via NaBH4 reduction method by using carbon nanotube (CNT) as support material. Electrocatalytic performance of catalysts for 1-propanol electrooxidation are investigated with cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry (CA), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. Au metal is electrodeposited on PtBi/CNT catalyst surface to increase catalytic activity. Specific activities of PtBi/CNT and Au@PtBi/CNT catalysts are obtained as 4.317 mA/cm2 and 11.517 mA/cm2, respectively. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) analytical techniques are performed to determine characterization of synthesized catalysts. The analysis results confirm that the Au metal is successfully doped onto the catalyst surface. Consequently, Au@PtBi/CNT catalyst can be an alternative anode catalyst for 1-propanol oxidation.
