Abstract

Transparent Ba(La1/2Nb1/2)O3-Pb(Zr, Ti)O3 electrooptic ceramics (BLN-PZT) were fabricated by the two-stage sintering method, and the optical and electrooptic properties were investigated for various compositions. Refractive indices at 633 nm wavelength were about 2.4 for all compositions, and a high optical transmittance of more than 56% at 633 nm wavelength was observed for 9.0/65/35 composition. Linear and quadratic electrooptic coefficients, r C and R, were 6.01×10-10 m/V and 10.535×10-16 m2/V2, respectively, for 9.0/50/50 and 9.0/55/45 compositions near the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) region.
