Abstract
After making a general survey of the applications of electronics in power systems today, the author gives his view on future trends. Compared with conventional heavy electrical equipment, the cost of power electronic systems will continue to decrease, thus opening the way to new applications. Data processing, fibre optics, man-machine communication and different application functions in energy management systems are some of the technical subjects mentioned.
