Abstract

We report studies of the electronic structure and optical properties of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT) using high resolution electron energy-loss spectroscopy in transmission. We present new results of the dependence of the interband transition and π plasmon dispersion on the SWNT diameter as well as on the SWNT orientation. For the SWNT filled with C60 (so-called peapods) we are able to derive the bulk filling factor from an analysis of the C1s absorption edge.
