Abstract

Abstract The results are presented of a study on the electronic energy transfer (EET) processes in inclusion host-guest compounds irradiated by gamma or UV photons. The host cavity site symmetry is correlated with the guest molecular symmetry and with the stereocontrol of the reaction products formed under irradiation; a specific “heteroexcimer” or “excithrate” is suggested as an excited host-guest intermediate radical-pair; in particular, symmetry correlations are suggested in order to explain reaction pathways into cavities of inclusion compounds in the excited state.
