Abstract
It is proposed that the mechanism of electrical conduction in carbon thermometers is similar to that in granular metals studied by Ping Sheng et al : the number of charged grains is thermally activated owing to the electrostatic energy required to form charged pairs, and electrons move from grain to grain by quantum-mechanical tunnelling.
