Abstract

Electron-positron correlations associated with narrow sum-energy lines have been observed in U+Th collisions. The possible explanation of this correlation by a two-body decay of an yet unknown neutral object has attracted substantial experimental as well as theoretical interest. In this article a report will be given of the present status of the respective heavy-ion experiments performed at the UNILAC accelerator of the Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung, Darmstadt, FRG.
