Abstract

An electron-photon coincidence technique has been used to study the angular distribution of the photon resulting from the decay of the 3 1P level of helium following electron impact excitation at energies of 80, 130, 180, 230 eV. From this, orientation and alignement parameters λ, χ are deduced, and compared with theoretical calculations and previous experiments. The need for a more sophisticated theory is clearly demonstrated.
