Abstract

Excitation of the 1P1 and 3P1 level of Ar by impact of electrons of energies 50, 80 and 100 eV was studied experimentally using an electron-photon coincidence technique. The energy resolution for selection of the scattered electrons was sufficient to distinguish the two levels. For each level an independent lambda chi parametrisation was fitted to the experimental photon distribution at a fixed scattering angle of 10 degrees . The parameter chi was found to have very different values for the two levels.
