Abstract

Glasses with composition xTeO2-10As2O3-(88-x)B2O3-2V2O5 (where x= 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 mol%) have been prepared by normal melt quenching technique. The amorphous nature of the glass system was confirmed by X-ray diffraction study. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR)spectra of VO2+ ions have been recorded in the X-band frequencies at room temperature. From the EPR spectra the spin-Hamiltonian parameters were evaluated. It was observed that the V4+ ions are present as VO2+vanadyl ions in octahedral coordination with tetragonal compression. The Lg‖ increase in Δg∥Δg⊥ with increase in TeO2 content. The covalancy rates indicated moderate covalancy for the σ- and π-bonds.
