Abstract

Electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of VO 2+ ions in alkali fluoroborate system of glasses (R = Li, Na) have been studied. The spectra are typical of V 4+ ions present in vanadyl (VO 2+) form in the glass. Spin-Hamiltonian parameters, Δg |/ Δg ⊥ and the covalency parameters have been evaluated. It was found that these parameters are dependent upon the alkali ion concentration in the glass and the VO 2+ ion is in an octahedral coordination with a tetragonal compression.
