Abstract

A statistical investigation of the variations of electron density with M≥5.9 earthquakes that occurred in the year 2005 in the Indonesian region is reported in this paper. Electron density data has been obtained from the ISL experiment onboard DEMETER satellite. The variations described as electron density anomalies are observed for both daytime and night time passes of the satellite and significantly occur within 5 days before and after the earthquakes except for the great Sumatra earthquake of March 28, 2005 where the lead time is around 14 days. The monitored distributions significantly depart from the associated background.
