Abstract
The classical trajectory Monte Carlo method has been used to calculate the total electron capture and ionization cross sections for collisions between multiply charged ions and a Rydberg target. The Rydberg targets are prepared in an oriented, elliptic state prior to simulating the system. The electron capture cross sections show a strong dependence on eccentricity as well as target alignment over various reduced collisions speeds. Electron ionization cross sections are less effected by alignment and show very little dependence on eccentricity at the higher collision speeds.
