Abstract
Planar transistors have been examined in a scanning electron microscope and surface potential contrast, induced by the inspecting electron beam, has been observed on unbiased transistors. Both planar transistors with and without an oxide coating have been studied and the effect of beam voltage on contrast formation has been investigated. The technique may be useful for the inspection of integrated circuits before interconnection.
