Abstract

We review theoretical and numerical research developments in intrinsic Josephson junctions in terms of spontaneous THz electromagnetic-wave emission and report our recent multi-scale simulation scheme to further enhance the radiation power. Starting with theoretical treatments on the couplings among the stacked Josephson junctions, we reveal that solitonic excitation is essential for large spontaneous emission. Finally, we propose an experimental setup, in which an intrinsic Josephson junction is enwrapped by the dielectric materials and reveal that radiation power enhancement occurs by tunning the dielectricity.
