Abstract

We estimate electromagnetic (ultraperipheral) and strong contributions to $d+\mathrm{Au}$ soft coherent inelastic diffraction at RHIC, $d+\mathrm{Au}$ $\ensuremath{\rightarrow}X+$Au. We show that the electromagnetic contribution is the dominant one and that the corresponding cross section is sizable, ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{\mathrm{e}.\mathrm{m}.}^{d+\mathrm{Au}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}X+\mathrm{Au}}=214$ mb, which constitutes 10% of the total $d\mathrm{Au}$ inelastic cross section.
