Abstract

Green-emitting SrS:Tb 3+ thin films were grown by the atomic layer epitaxy (ALE) technique using as starting materials hydrogen sulfide and β-diketonate metal complexes with 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione as the chelating ligand. The brightest photo- and electroluminance was obtained when the activator concentration was 6–7 wt.%. With 60 Hz driving frequency the measured luminance was 5.5 cd m −2. The luminance characteristics of SrS:Tb 3+ are discussed and compared with those of other phosphors which could be used to produce the green color for a full-color TFEL device.
