Abstract

The features of electrochemical modification of an epoxy polymer on the surface of a steel cathode in a medium of dimethylformamide have been investigated to obtain coatings with defined properties. As modifiers the authors chose styrene and its derivatives vinylxylol and vinyltoluene. The regimes of obtaining the polymer films from composites based on ED-20 with the modifiers indicated and also the compositions of the polymers obtained have been determined. From the data of the IR spectra on the composition of the copolymer films the authors construct the copolymerization curves for the systems styrene: ED-20 and vinyltoluene: ED-20. The values of the copolymerization constants are calculated by the method of Kelen and Tüdös. An anionic mechanism of copolymerization is assumed. The physicochemical characteristics of the epoxide polymeric coatings modified by vinylbenzene have been studied. Among the advantages of modification are increases in the uniformity of the coatings obtained, their hardness and also considerable acceleration of the curing process.
