Abstract
AbstractThe electrochemical deposition of palladium on polycrystalline gold substrates was followed in the UPD range and under conditions where massive metal deposition occurs. These processes were studied by means of in‐situ microweighing, cyclic voltammetry and the registration of frequency and current with time. In addition, the diffusion kinetics of palladium into the gold substrate was studied under UPD conditions. The latter process leads to alloy formation. The electrosorption valency γ for palladium adsorbates was determined to be γ = 1.8. The apparent diffusion coefficient D of palladium into the gold electrode yields D ≈ 10−17 cm2/s for the conditions applied here.
