Abstract

Nano-composites, including amorphous inorganic matrixes and organically modified glass matrixes doped with nano-crystallites of ferroelectrics, were studied. Several interesting phenomena were experimentally observed. Nano-domains having a dimension of 10 nm were observed in epitaxially grown potassium niobate thin films. Some ferroelectric-like properties were measured in amorphous lead zirconate titanate and barium titanate thin films containing 3 to 5 nm-size particles those have an ordered structure. A large electro-optical (Pockels') effect, which exists only in those materials with an anisotropy structure, was detected in an organically modified titanium dioxide glass doped with nano-crystallites of antimony sulphoiodide.
