Abstract

Photochromic reactions occurring in the solid state are studied by using solid-state 13C NMR and IR spectroscopy. Electrical switching of small-molecule photochromic compounds is observed on single crystals and thin films. The figure shows the voltage–current characteristics of a thin film of a dithienylethene derivative before (○) and after (•) UV irradiation.
