Abstract

We investigated metallic magnonic crystals (MCs) of the permalloy (Py) strips with periodic grooves. The pronounced dips in the transmitted spectra of magnetostatic surface spin waves were observed using an antenna method. The frequencies of the dips were in good agreement with the ones of the magnonic band gaps obtained by micromagnetic simulation. Furthermore, we demonstrated the band gap frequency was modified by varying the lattice constant of MCs. The success of the electrical detection of the magnonic band gaps for the Py MCs opens up a route for the development of novel magnonic devises based on metallic MCs.
