Abstract
ABSTRACT THE basic principles of an electrical conductivity probe to detect changes in volume and electrical conductivity of vaginal mucus associated with estrus in dairy cattle are presented. An optimal probe design with axially parallel electrodes is recommended. Data from laboratory and field experiments suggest that a probe of this design may prove to be a useful aid in detecting estrus in cattle.
