Abstract

The electrical conductivity of polycrystalline calcium titanate with calcium-to-titanium ratios of 1.003, 1.005 and 1.008 was measured at 1050 and 1100°C under thermodynamic equilibrium conditions with the oxygen partial pressures P O 2 in the range 10 0 − 10 −19 atm. The measured data were found to be similar to those obtained previously in a sample with the ideal calcium-to-titanium cationic ratio of 1.000. The observed data were proportional to P O 2 −1 6 for the oxygen pressure range 10 −14 − 10 −19 atm, to P O 2 −1 4 for the oxygen pressure range 10 −13 − 10 −8 atm and to P O 2 +1 4 for the oxygen pressure range of greater than 10 −4 atm. A model involving the formation of a shear structure is discussed to accommodate the excess CaO in the system.
