Abstract
A lattice sum calculation of the electric field gradient (EFG) at the iron sites in NaMnFeF 6 is used to explain the Mössbauer quadrupole splittings; the fluorine polarizability which fits the data is in reasonable agreement with the expected value (α F ≈ 1.13 Å 3).
