Abstract
The unpaired electron distribution is measured for a single crystal of CuCr2Se4-xBrx with x=0.5 by using polarized neutron diffraction technique. The values of the magnetic moments of µcr=2.77±0.07 µB and µCu=-0.07±0.01 µB are obtained. In comparison with the results obtained for the case of x=0.0, the additional electrons introduced by substitution of Se by Br are shown to occupy 3d-orbital of Cr. The radial distribution of 3d-electrons of Cr for x=0.5 is observed to be more contracted than that for x=0.0 in spite of the number of 3d-electron being larger for x=0.5 than x=0.0. This is considered to manifest an increase of the correlation energy of Cr, in conformity with decreasing electric conductivity.
