Abstract

Synthesis and physical properties of CuInS 2 -based magnetic semiconductors are reported. CuInS 2 is one of the chalcopyrite-type semiconductors with p-type conductivity. We have prepared CuIn 1-x Mn x S 2-δ and CuIn 1-x Fe x S 2 alloys as sintered polycrystalline material. Electrical conductivity changes drastically from insulating to semimetallic with increasing the Mn concentration. No magnetic ordering is observed in these systems down to 2K. High-field magnetization of Cu 0.95 In 0.95 Mn 0.1 S 2 at T = 1.6K shows a step-like increase of magnetization around B = 25 T. These results indicate that magnetic properties are dominated by antiferromagnetic exchange interaction rather than carrier-mediated interactions.
