Abstract

Determining the trajectory of particles that moves under the action of an electric field inside of an electrofilter for dielectric liquids is a method that provides useful information in the analysis of the electrofiltering process for purging dielectric liquids. In particle trajectory analysis it is very important how particle position is chosen inside of the electrofilter. An analysis of particle trajectory was made for different coordinates of the particle, a special interest being the case in which the particle is positioned between a pair of electrodes with floating potential from an electrofilter of own conception, the sedimentation of the particles on these electrodes being analyzed. Under the influence of an electric field, the particles will start to move along the electric field lines of force, translation, rotation and friction forces acting on particles, the sum of these forces given particle trajectory. If the particle is not spherical, the rotational force on the particle with the electric field strength will induce an oscillatory motion of the particle, which is important in the analysis of particle trajectory.
